About this blog

«Ordvandring» means «word wandering» – words travel between languages, and in this blog we also travel between languages following random words.

I’ve always been interested in language, both my native Norwegian and foreign languages.

I’ve studied several languages to different levels: English and German in school, and later also Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, and Polish.

One of the interesting cultural aspects of studying a language is discovering etymology – where the words come from and how they travel between languages. One soon discovers that no language is «pure» – all languages borrow words from other languages, always for a convenient and practical reason but also often to the chagrin of language purists (including to me!)
